I've been feeling really lost since I stepped down from a volunteer job in SL I had for two and a half years as a group coordinator and have had trouble getting motivated to do much of anything since. I wanted to do a show today and it took me a while to find a song but this one fits my situation well I think.

Lyrics

if i could only be the queen of popularity
things would just come to me
so easily
what i would do
what I would do

if i could always be
miss congeniality
no one could stand to be
away from me
what i would do
what i could do

i could do anything

i could do anything
if i were you
i would have everything

Rendal's Picks #44-Sing for Sol
January 14, 2009 10:43 AM PST
itunes pic

OK Warning now these video links aren't safe for work probably so if you click and get caught I did warn you. The character Sol was played by Craig Conway

Last week I watched a movie called Doomsday. This was a really good gritty movie and had one of the best comedy scenes I've ever seen.

Going into it things are dark and in some cases brutal. Several people getting killed and the lead lady being very stiffly interrogated.

Then this scene comes on and I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. It was so ridiculously out of place and yet fit so well once I learned who sang the song it is something you just have to shake your head and snicker at.

So with that aside the first link will go to the German (I think) Version of this scene.

Fine Young Cannibals-Good Thing-Only in part of the clip but just the fact they played it is funny.

OK so after that I found someone had replaced the audio of the above scene and replaced it with a group I can find nothing about yet called Candy Corp (for obvious reasons to you now I'm sure). The song is called Scream for Me and if you listen to the lyrics you can pick out the quote from the movie Legend that probably helped inspire it.

Scream for Sol

Update: Found them though not sure if they are going by that name anymore. It was Candy_Corp. (I didn't think the underscore was part of the name) and can be found on Vampire Freaks and Pure Volume

Clean
May 21, 2008 11:22 AM PDT

This has been something I've been listening to a lot and so I thought this week's picks would just be this one. Since that is the care I also included the lyrics.

Lola Pandora & The Spiders from Mars-God Bless TV

Lola Pandora and the Spiders from Mars on iLike

Lyrics
I hold reverence to their words
when they say:/ 'purify and realize
and love yourself'/
inspired-I want to be someone/
That's what I want/
That's what I want/

chorus:
I'm so happy 'cause I can't be /
what I wonna be/
God bless TV/
For representing a me/ I'll never
be
no/
I'm so happy 'cause I can't be
what I wanna be/
God bless TV/

I do my best/ and in distress/ I
try
to remmember/
Fame is fleeting
Obscurity will atleast last
forever/
so That's what I want /
That's what I want/

Chorus:/

bridge:
It should be enough/ it should be
enough to just be/
{Nothing is as powerful /as a
girl whose time has come/
except girls whose time has
passed /but are backed up by a lot
of cash/
and I have reached the point
/
where I can't afford to care/
if I conquer the world /with
my
head or my hair.}

Like all good Ol'New York
waitresses/ we crave creation /
it's
what we want to be/
But is our art for art's sake/
or art for the sake of nobility ?/
'cause That's what I want/
That's what I want/

Radio Sub Rosa was a group who put out political messages to a musical background, sometimes in audio clips, sometimes in music. In this they gather some people and sit them down to let them voice their opinions on things they see in the world.

Rendal's Picks #2-Soup Stone by Williams and Ree
Clean
December 03, 2007 08:46 AM PST

This was a song Williams and Ree (aka The Indian and the White guy) sang on a promotional video for south Dakota's department of Tourism which had the pair going from Sioux Falls to Mount Rushmore. While I've lost the video this song remains and I would like to share it.

Lyrics:

Hanging from a string
In Mama's Kit-chen
Back in the hard time days

Was a lil old stone
'bout the size of an apple
It was smooth, and worn, and grey

There wasn't much food
In Mama's Kit-chen
But whenever things got tight

Then Mom would boil up some water
And put in the stone and say
"Let's have some soup tonight"

And I swear you could taste
the chicken and tomatoes
and the noodles and the marrow bone

But it really wasn't nothin'
but some water and potatoes
and the wonderful, wonderful Soup stone

That soup stone been in the family
for a whole lot of years
we knew it was a nourishin' thing

I remember Mama
as she stirred it in the water
we could all hear her singin'

"It's a magical stone
and as long as we got it
we'll never have a hungry night.

Just add a little love
to the wonderful soup stone
and Everything will be alright..."

And I swear you could taste
the chicken and tomatoes
and the noodles and the marrow bone

But it really wasn't nothin'
but some water and potatoes
and the wonderful, wonderful soup stone

It carried us all
through the darkenin' days
'til finally the sunshine came

and the soup stone started
into gatherin' dust
but it hung there just the same.

And ever since then
the foods been a plenty,
but every now and then I find.

think about my Momma in the kitchen
with that wonderful soup stone
trips across my mind YEAH..

And Again I can Taste
the chicken and tomatoes
and the noodles and the marrow bone (I can see the water

boilin')

But it really wasn't nothin'
but some water and potatoes
and the wonderful, wonderful soup stone.

And again I can taste
the chicken and tomatoes
and the noodles and the marrow bone

But it really wasn't nothin'
but some water and potatoes
and the wonderful, wonderful soup stone...
